In real life, with thorough background of WHY she went into the cult, and then WHAT becomes of her ... I could make my opinion on whether she was sympathetic or not. As is, without that context, I am opinion-less about her - which frustrated me; as I was interested in where the character came from and where she will go."
Fantastic movie. I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie but I was impressed. Good plot, great acting. I recommend.
A different take on posttraumatic stress disorder, resulting from Martha's time spent in a quasi-commune, reminiscent of the (Charles) Manson Family in the late '60s. The most twisted part of this ugliness is that nutjob cults like this are really out there. Elizabeth Olsen (Mary-Kate and Ashley's younger sister) is stunning, and looks to be a very promising actress.
not good
I liked this film. John Hawkes, who plays the cult leader, is wonderful! He is such an amazing actor...just to-die-for. Sarah Paulson, as Martha's sister Lily, and Elizabeth Olsen, as Martha, did very very well. I recommend this film. Wished I had caught it in theatres!
There is something so real about this... very well done. The acting is top notch. Truly scary. I get others negative comments, but I got dragged right in and appreciated the pacing and off kilter quietness.
BORING boring BORing borING. Watch the short film included. Hot.
The acting is this movie is riveting. Both Elizabeth Olson in the lead and the cult leader guy do a fantastic job. I loved the scenes in the cult showing her slow indoctrination. I was less enamored with the scenes of her with her sister at the lake house. Never did feel the suspense of whether the cult was coming for her or not. Kind of an abrupt ending too. Worth watching, but just didn't get into the plot like I thought I would.
Let down with the ending. What was the whole point if it ends like that? Did she really want to get away? And if so, Why bother on calling the cult?
Agonizing look at one young women's victimization and terror as she endures horrific situation after situation. The acting is very good but it's very difficult to watch. Seems quite unnecessary to subject yourself to this, don't do it.
