His wife, Katie, wants a divorce and, based on the advice of her divorce lawyer, she downloads many of his personal and financial files onto a disc. Katie's lover is Treasury agent Harry Pfarrer. The disc eventually finds its way to Hardbodies, a workout gym. An employee of the gym, Chad Feldheimer obtains the disc and ascertains that it contains classified government information. Along with his fellow employee, Linda Litzke, he intends to use the disc to blackmail Osbourne. When blackmailing him fails, Linda decides to take the information to the Russian embassy. At the embassy, she hands the disc over to the Russians, promising that she will give them more information. Linda and Chad don't have any more information, so they decide to break into Cox's house. This brings about a series of events that no one forsees.

Comment
Add a CommentKind of entertaining, kind of stupid at times.
George Clooney chews up the scenery & Frances McDormand channels Carol Burnett & Lily Tomlin and Brad Pitt gets shot much too late in this irritatingly unfunny mish-mash. About? Who cares...
One of the better Coen brothers darkly comic movies, terrific acting and typically about stupidity and greed.
A great cast of actors, but a weak story left me bored. This is one I should of skipped.
burn after watching
A light farce. Fun watching this one.
When I watched this, I quipped "Burn after viewing". However, I don't suggest you burn the library copy. I'm sure the book would have been a more interesting read. It is a movie after a book isn't it? I'd call this a Sunday afternoon type movie. It's interesting enough to watch, but not a lot of excitement. It has a similar ending as "The Lady Killers", but without an eccentric old lady getting a million dollars at the end. I was groaning after I saw the end (but it makes sense of the title). It's like one of those stories your grand dad told you that had no message to it, no moral to the story, and nothing left at the end to leave any proof it ever happened.
This is one of those movies you will either love or hate, as I don't see much of a fine line in between here. This movie has lots of funny parts though it still lacking script wise. I would recommend this movie to fans of darker comedies.
Dull, don't even bother.
An interesting character piece with several threads intertwined and some great out of character acting for some of the folks in the story. I liked it.
